An Amity teen who went missing after being disciplined the morning of Tuesday, May 24 was found safe later that night, according to the Pike County Sheriff’s Department.

The 16-year-old, who was not named by authorities, was last seen around 10 a.m. by his father near their home on Ebenezer Road in Amity. The father stated the son was upset over “disciplinary action and that he had seen him go into the woods near their home.” The boy’s parents became concerned when the teen did not return home after several hours and notified the authorities around 4 p.m.

Pike County lawmen along with the Pike County Search and Rescue Unit, the Office of Emergency Services, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Little River County Canine Search and Rescue searched for the teen for more than three hours.

“The canines tracked the juvenile into the wooded area where he was located at 7:20 p.m. and subsequently reunited with his mother,” according to a press release, which noted the family had requested their names be withheld at this time.
