Verland Eugene “Gene” Hosey, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2016

hoseyVerland Eugene “Gene” Hosey, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, in a skilled nursing facility in Carrollton, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, with his sons by his side. He was born on March 18, 1934, the son of the late Maggie Davidson Hosey and Houston Henry Hosey in Mineral Springs.  He was preceded in death by his parents; nine sisters; and four brothers. Gene is survived by his sons, Kevin Hosey and wife, Terrelia of Lewisville, Texas, Lance Hosey and wife, Kate of Washington D.C., and Terry Hosey and wife, Tiffanny of Plano, Texas; his grandchildren, Christian, Kimberly, Morgan, and Sean; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. As a student at Mineral Springs High School, he was a standout athlete. He served in the U.S. Army and graduated from the University of Houston with an accounting degree. He was a certified public accountant and a partner with several large public accounting firms, including a successful accounting firm he founded in El Paso. Gene also has held executive management positions with several corporations, including serving as CEO of Tony Lama Boot Company and Champion Cooler Corporation. His passions included golf, fishing, and hunting. He also enjoyed the Southwest, residing most of his adult life in El Paso and Arizona. He moved to Dallas in 2004 to spend more time with his sons and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at the Shiloh Church and Cemetery, in Mineral Springs, Arkanasas. The family asks that any memorial contributions made be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org/) in honor of Gene Hosey.
