The Nashville School Board voted Thursday to move ahead with installing artificial turf at Scrapper Stadium.
Board members voted 4-0 to hire Athletic Surfaces Plus as the management consultant for the project.
Superintendent Doug Graham said the bid process will begin immediately, with tentative plans calling for a bid opening May 31. Graham said there are five major companies that install 90 percent of artificial field worldwide.
Earlier this year, the board authorized Coach Mike Volarvich and Athletic Director James “Bunch” Nichols to solicit sponsorships for the turf. So far, the campaign has raised $675,000 from 10 sponsors, according to Graham.
The estimated cost of the project is $650,000.
