Family, friends, and supporters of the 2016 Black graduate candidates of Nashville High School are asked to be present Sat., May 7 at the Nashville High School Dining Hall/Auditorium at 6 p.m. for the Black Graduates Ceremony.
This is year 16 to introduce the graduates, embrace their accomplishments, and announce their future plans. Student scholarship awards will be announced. This modern day baccalaureate style service allows the students to receive an encouraging message/word from an African American alumni. Mr. Gabriel Green, class of 2005, will address the group of potentially thirty-four young men and women.
Invitations were mailed to the church congregations listed on the student biography sheets asking their participation in the celebration. Past congregations have show tributes to their student graduates with baskets, flowers, gift cards, money awards, musical tributes or poetic presentations, engraved bibles and embroidered pillows.
Prior year scholarship sponsors are encouraged to contact Deborah Marshall at (870) 200-5734 or Cheryl Haislip at (870) 200-0752 to gift a young person this year. Additional information on each graduate can be provided upon request.
Anyone can establish a new scholarship award: business owners, individuals creating memorials in memory of loved ones, family reunion honorees; new awards are encouraged.
A reception will follow immediately after the program at the Dodson Street Family Life Center, 206 W. Dodson St. Graduates and their parents are encouraged to bring NHS school yearbooks and other memorabilia to share.
