Lady Lions open season with a bang

softball MI v FL 1 webMOUNT IDA – The Lady Lions took to the field amidst a haze of smoke due to a controlled burn in the area, but they didn’t let that get in their way as they opened the season with a 16-1 victory over Fountain Lake.
Mount Ida opened the game with a five run effort in the first inning and finished with a seven run rally in the fourth to end the game early by way of the sportsmanship rule.
Mallory Carr and Addison Black combined for the victory. Carr recorded two strike outs and two walks while giving up three hits and one run in three innings of work. Black pitched the fourth inning giving up one hit and recording two strikeouts.
Addison Black led the team with four runs, all without the benefit of a hit. She drew three walks and reached on a hit batsman.

Madison Smith, Braelynne Bates, Jordan Farmer and Peyton Burrow each scored once.
Fiorello drew three walks and one strike out and recorded a hit. Smith Had two walks and a sacrifice hit. Bates had a hit and a strike out. Carr drew three walks and Whisenhunt had two hits. Farmer and Burrow each had a hit, a walk and a strike out.
Carr faced four batters in the first inning, allowing one base runner on a walk.
The Lady Lions were patient at the plate with Black, Smith and Car reaching on base on balls. Bates reached first after the catcher dropped the ball on a called third strike. Whisenhunt reached first on a fielders choice and Stover reached on an error. Farmer recorded the first hit of the game. Black, Smith, Bates, Whisenhunt and Stover each scored.
The Mount Ida defense proved up to the task in the second after the lead off batter reached on an infield single. The next two batters reached on fielders choice as the Lady Lion defense locked second base down for back to back force outs. Carr ended the inning with a strike out.

Fountain Lake was able to dodge a shut out in the third with a run. Their lead off batter reached on a ground ball to center field. She stole second and third and then scored on a sac fly.
Black scored the lone Lady Lion run in the third on a wild pitch.
Black entered the game as pitcher in the top of the fourth with Carr moving to third base. She only faced four batters and gave up no runs.
Mount Ida got things rolling in the bottom of the fourth with the Lady Lions loading the bases twice and scoring seven runs to end the game early with the sportsmanship rule.
