MURFREESBORO-The Pike County Sheriff’s Office has made another arrest with the aid of Facebook.
A felony charge of possession of firearm by certain persons (class D) was filed by the state in the Pike County Circuit Clerk’s office on January 14 against 40-year-old Carl Douglas Main of Caddo Gap.
According to the affidavit of arrest Main allegedly sent a message to Pike County Chief Deputy David Shelby on the sheriff’s office investigative Facebook account on December 16. Chief Deputy Shelby, the online administrator, was logged onto the account under the guise of a 28-year-old female at the time.
Main had allegedly attempted contact with Chief Deputy Shelby twice before on December 13 and December 14. Chief Deputy Shelby replied to the message on December 16 and a conversation ensued.
According to the affidavit of arrest, shooting firearms and target practice was the most discussed topic during the conversation and Chief Deputy Shelby ran an NCIC check on Main which showed that he was a convicted felon.
Conversations between the two continued and on January 1 Main agreed to a meeting on January 4 at a cabin near Swaha at Lake Greeson. Main allegedly sent messages stating that he would bring a 30-30 long rifle, a .357 caliber pistol and a .44 mag pistol with him to the meeting.
The day of the meeting the two were discussing the meeting place and time when Main messaged the Facebook page stating that he had his guns in his truck and was on his way to the cabin. When Main arrived at the cabin officers on scene made contact with him and he told them he had three firearms in his vehicle and that he knew he wasn’t supposed to have them in his possession.
During a search of the truck officers found all three firearms. Main was arrested for possession of firearm by certain persons and the guns and truck were confiscated.
Bond was set by Circuit Judge Tom Cooper on January 6 for $25,000 and Main appeared for his formal arraignment in Pike County Circuit Court Monday. His bond was reduced to $10,000 and an April 11 pre-trial date and April 28 trial date were given.
