One of Arkansas’s best-known radio play-by-play announcers will visit Nashville for next month’s Scrapper Showdown.
Rex Nelson, the radio voice of the Ouachita Baptist University Tigers, will be the speaker for the Showdown, a fund-raiser for the Scrapper Booster Club.
The Showdown will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, at 6:30 p.m. in the new cafeteria at Nashville High School.
Nelson has called the plays for OBU for more than 30 years. He also hosts a statewide high school scoreboard show on Friday nights during the football season.
Nelson is senior vice president and director of corporate communications at Simmons First National Corp. He is a regular columnist for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and appears regularly on various radio shows. He also writes Southern Fried Blog, which appears on a monthly basis in The Nashville Leader.
The featured entertainer at the Scrapper Showdown will be “American Idol” contestant Ethan Kuntz, a junior at Nashville High School.
Kuntz appeared on the Fox TV program last week and advanced to the next round of the competition in Hollywood. Last week’s segment was recorded at Verizon Arena in North Little Rock.
Along with Nelson’s comments and the performance by Kuntz, the Scrapper Showdown will include a meal, live and silent auctions and other activities.
More details will be announced.
