Christmas events begin this weekend

A multitude of Christmas events will begin this weekend.
•On Saturday, December 5 the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce, the Murfreesboro PTO and the Women’s Auxiliary of SEPCA will host numerous activities throughout the day.
The Murfreesboro PTO will host its First Annual Chili Cook Off beginning at noon on the Square. The cook off is open to any group or individual.
Requirements for the cook off are to prepare approximately three gallons of chili by a favorite recipe and have it on the Square by 11:15 a.m. on Saturday. Participants must provide a small spoon for dipping for a “tasting bowl” and a ladle for a regular bowl.  Contact Brittany at 870-925-1386 for more participation information.
Chili from the cook off will be served from noon-4 p.m. Samples will be $2 and bowls will be $4. Drinks will be sold separately.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting with children in Murfreesboro after the Christmas Parade that begins at 1 p.m. Line-up for the parade will be on Anthony Street by Latimer’s Funeral Home.
The Murfreesboro PTO will also be holding its first ever Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. First, second and third prizes will be awarded in an adult division and in a kids division. Judging will be at 2 p.m.
Christmas Singing on the Square will begin at 5 p.m. There will be group singing of carols and any individual that would like to perform should contact the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce at 870-285-3131.
•On Sunday, December 6, the annual Rosenwald Parade will begin at 2 p.m. . Lineup will start at 1:45 p.m. at the Antoine Post Office.
Everyone is invited to participation. Churches, schools, civic groups. Contact Beverly Meeks (870) 223-1473.
•On Monday, December 7, the Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Commission will be hosting “Christmas in the Park” from 6-8 p.m. There will be Christmas music performed by local talent, a hayride and concessions. All events begin at 6 p.m.
Performing in the event will be the Murfreesboro Fourth and Fifth Grade Band, Jack Manlove, Ashli Turner and Heather Grabin, and John David Watson and the Joe Ledbetter Band.
The Commission will be selling chances on a $200 Academy Sports gift card and two $100 gift cards to Wal-Mart.
Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and can be purchased from any Park Commissioner or at the Park Office.

•On Saturday, December 12, the Delight Christmas Parade and Open House will be held at 2 p.m. Parade entries will line up on Railroad Street. For more information, contact City Hall at 870-379-2020.
•The First United Methodist Church, located at 403 Second Avenue in Murfreesboro, will sponsor it’s 39th Annual Advent Feast on Saturday, December 12 from 5-7 p.m. in the Family Life Center (located behind the church).
The whole community is invited to attend the dinner and enjoy fellowship and Christmas music.
The Christmas dinner is free and there are no income guidelines. It will consist of chicken and dressing, creamed potatoes, green beans, gravy, roll, assorted desserts and a drink. Take-outs will not be available.
