MOUNT IDA – The Mount Ida Lions have 15 players who received conference and state honors in football following a stellar 2015 season which saw them go 12-1 and finish as outright 7-2A Conference Champions.
Two Mount Ida Lions were named to the 2A All State Team, a jaw dropping 11 were chosen for the First Team 7-2A All Conference Team and four were named to the second team 7-2A All Conference Team.
Senior standouts T.J. Wilson and Jesse Lowry were named to the 2A All State Team. Both players are three year starters for the Lions. Wilson started at quarterback and defensive back, while Lowry was used in a variety of positions on both sides of the ball.
The two all state recipients are automatically named to the 7-2A All Conference Team. Joining them are Cody Robertson, Caleb Jones, Tyler Wingfield, Michael Kesterson, Gunner Gilbert, Logan Abernathy, Caleb Woodfield, Cade Helms and Anthony Spurling.
Second Team 7-2A All Conference members include Brett Cannon, Austin McAdoo, Bridger Farmer and Tyler Allenbrand.
A new conference honor this year is outstanding player for a position. Mount Ida had players represented in all but two categories. Coach Mike White explained that a player had to be a senior to receive this honor.
T.J. Wilson was named Outstanding Quarterback, Cody Robertson was named Outstanding Defensive Back, Jesse Lowry was named Outstanding Receiver, Caleb Jones was named Outstanding Line Backer, Michael Kesterson was named Outastanding Offensive Lineman and Tyler Wingfield was named Outstanding Defenisve Lineman.
