It was cold and dark inside the Howard County Historical Society museum, Tuesday morning, for an open house and community coffee.
Society officers warmly showed off progress made inside and outside the 1912 building which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Several items were already on display, and the completed project for new windows was obvious.
The society is seeking additional members. Annual memberships are $20 for individuals, $50 for families, and $200 for corporate members.
Membership checks and donations may be mailed to the society, PO Box 555, Nashville, AR 71852.
In addition to more members, the society is also looking for donors for the Pew Sponsorship Drive and the Chapel Light Sponsorship Drive for the former church building.
Pew sponsorships will actually be used to purchase heating and air conditioning units. Chapel light sponsorship gifts will be used to purchase fixtures which are described as a 12-inch ivory ‘schoolhouse’ globe on an oiled bronze hanging fixture. Pew sponsorships are $250 and light sponsorships are $150. The society suggests that gifts be made in honor, or in memory, of a person, or for a business advertisement. Donations are tax-deductible.
