Hornets blanked by Lions; trip to Gurdon next

Mineral Springs kept it respectable for a quarter, Friday, in the Hornets’ league-opener against the unbeaten Mount Ida Lions.

But the gates crumbled in the second quarter and the Lions swept to a convincing 41-0 win over the Hornets (0-3).

The Lion defense rebuffed the Hornets on the ground and via the air. Mineral Springs netted only 20 yards rushing, and 46 yards passing.

At the half, the score was 28-0, and the Lions posted two more touchdowns in the third quarter before reserves got action.

Mount Ida rushed for 508 yards and used the pass sparingly. The Lions manhandled the Hornets on defense, however, limiting Mineral Springs to 20 yards rushing and 46 yards through the air.

the Lions also had to overcome 10 penalties for 90 yards.

The Hornets travel to Gurdon, Friday, for another conference tilt. The Go-Devils pasted Dierks 32-18, Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
