Saturday, Oct. 17 proved to be a fateful day for a Louisiana family traveling through Pike County. The event began as a black Dodge Charger sped past a Pike County Deputy in excess of 100 miles per hour. However, before Pike County Deputy Shaun Fur could affect a traffic stop the vehicle careened into the woods sending all five occupants to the hospital in serious condition.
Fortunately for the family, first responders and deputies were immediately on the scene to assist. The female passenger of the vehicle as well as the three small children in the back seat were easily removed from the vehicle to begin the medical treatment prior to transportation. However, the driver of the vehicle James Clifton Fondren, 34, of Heflin, La., had to be mechanically extricated for medical transport.
After removal from the vehicle all occupants were transported to local hospital for treatment where the children were forwarded to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for the treatment of serious injuries.
At this time, the Pike County Sheriff’s Department is investigating charges against the driver.
