Smead papersDanny Smead, age 64, of Daisy, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015. He was born on August 3, 1951, in Daisy, the son of Wallace Richard Smead and Pansy Jean Henderson Smead. On December 17, 1971, he was married to Rachel Marie Kesterson. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Smead; and his stepfather, Sonny Fagan.
He was a 1969 graduate of Kirby High School and later that same year, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served in Vietnam until he was discharged in 1971. He was employed at Briar Gypsum for forty-four years, where he worked as maintenance supervisor. A Christian in his faith, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan. Danny adored his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them compete in their athletic endeavors. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Marie Smead of Daisy; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Johnny Smead of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Brian and Jennifer Smead of Nashville and Kevin and Michelle Smead of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Skyler Smead, Dalton Smead, Haddon Smead and Savannah Smead; his mother, Pansy Fagan of Amity; one sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Greg Miller of Chattanooga, Tennessee; one stepbrother and his spouse, Grady and Theresa Fagan of Malvern; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 6, 2015, in the Daisy Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Kevin Jewell and Bro. Scott Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be Saturday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment with U.S. Army military honors will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Jack Kelly, Jerry Fox, Wayne Arnold, Keith Lee, Daryl Cook and Larry Nuttle. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Fagan, Chester Semmler, Phil Smith, Sam White and Barry Wright. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount.
