Confederate flags and gay marriage. Pandora’s Box is wide open. Let’s all just turn off the main stream media, get off of facebook and stop utilizing our right of free speech for a day or two.
Maybe then people would calm down enough to think. It does not matter what little old you or me believe, change comes irregardless of our desires. I don’t think these two issues should end friendships and cause feuds that will endure for generations, although I’m fairly positive they will.
I have strong opinions on both of these subjects, but I also like to look out of the box. I try to play “devil’s advocate” and understand why others feel the way they do. I feel like this helps me to better understand the anger and bitterness behind both of these totally separate topics.
I’m not going to voice my personal beliefs on either one of these topics. I will not professionally endorse any political movements of such matters because I would not want to cause anyone grief. What I do want to say is this–look behind the smoke screens.
There is a reason there is so much social unrest in this nation. It’s not just racial tension or whether someone is gay or straight. There is strife every where in daily life, but it is up to us to look at the bigger picture–change comes whether we want it or not, but we don’t have to be ignorant, rude and ugly to each other about it. Let’s start showing each other a little respect and try to work together. It might make an extreme difference.
We live in a constantly evolving country. Sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. Things I never dreamed could happen in our country when I was growing up have occurred, but I imagine that is how every generation feels when they look back over the years. Beliefs are fractured and altered by events around us.
Anywho, be kind to one another. Show a little love and compassion. Try to see things from outside of your box no matter your beliefs.
Without love, humans are nothing but evil creatures. Mere animals cloaked in thin veils of humanity.
Have a safe and happy fourth of July. Remember the reason for the holiday and always show respect to those who serve so bravely for our country.

“And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” Mark 3:25

“The world is closing in, did you ever think that we could be so close, like brothers. The future’s in the air, I can feel it everywhere, blowing with the wind of change.” -Winds of Change-Scorpions

“So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?” -Wish You Were Here-Pink Floyd

“Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” A quote from a poem written by Emma Lazarus that appears on the Statue of Liberty
