NASHVILLE – A convicted sex offender accused of failing to report a new residence to local law enforcement has entered a guilty plea to a charge stemming from the offense.
Kory Sipes, 33, was sentenced to three years in the Arkansas Department of Correction with two suspended Wednesday in Howard County Circuit Court. Court documents indicate he was charged with failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements in January after allegedly relocating from Nashville to Hope without informing law enforcement in either location.
According to an arrest affidavit prepared by Assistant Chief Amy Marion, Sipes registered with the department in late June last year, transferring his residence from a home on Corinth Road to one on West Bishop St.
“In September of 2014, Kory Sipes came to the Nashville Police Department and reported that he had been kicked out of his residence at 321 W. Bishop St.,” Marion wrote in the arrest narrative. “Sipes told me that he was going to go to a homeless shelter in Texarkana until he could get employment … I advised Sipes to check in with the police department having jurisdiction when he got there and to call me with their information when he registered there.”
Sipes allegedly failed to contact the Nashville Police Department with a new address, and Marion later learned he was living in Hope, according to the affidavit.
Sipes was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child in 2000 while living in Cherokee County, Texas.
