The Arkansas Long Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking certified volunteers. The mission of the Certified Volunteer Ombudsman program is to help assure that long term care facility residents have the right to live their lives harmoniously and with dignity, feeling free to voice complaints or concerns without reprisal.
Through regular visitations, the Certified Volunteer Ombudsman seeks to enhance the quality of life for long term care residents by striving to be a trusted advocate for all residents by educating them regarding their rights thus empowering them to speak for themselves and by referring problems to the Regional Ombudsman.
To qualify you must be at least 18 years old, attend an eight hour classroom training, have reliable transportation, have experience in working with older people and have no immediate family members presently employed by a LTC facility.
Some volunteer responsibilities will be to visit residents in assigned facility two to four hours weekly, explain the purpose of the program to residents and family, complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, and adhere to the confidentiality and code of ethics agreement at all times.
To volunteer, call Doris Chaney, Regional Ombudsman at 870-904-9152 for further information.
