The survivors’ reception will begin at 5 p.m. At the Nashville City Park’s Dogwood Pavilion. The event will be catered by Norma Martin’s Catering and t-shirts, pins and other items will be given away to survivors for free.
The opening ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. with a tribute to Bill Fritts themed “Life is Good.” Following that will be a survivor introduction and lap ,and a caretaker introduction and lap. After that, there will be a team lap and introduction then the prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.
The lighting and reading of luminaries will start at 8:45 p.m. and last until 9.
Luminaries can be purchased starting at 5 p.m.
Fabian Thrash, 103.9 Kpig’s diskjockey will attend the event and Jimmy Lewis with the group Eight Second Ride, formerly Southern Justice, will be providing entertainment and selling their CD. There will be other local entertainment as well.
Mayor Billy Ray Jones will paint the town purple June 1-6 and is asking businesses to put as much purple in their windows as possible.
The last Relay for Life Meeting before the June 1 activities will be on that day at 6 p.m. in Cossatot’s room 108. It is requested that as many teams as possible attend.
The Mine Creek Angels team is selling chances on a Remington model 770 rifle complete with a scope and camouflage stainless steel. Chances are $5 a piece. They are also selling t-shirts that say “Anchored in hope” with an anchor design and the scripture Hebrews 6:19. The shirts are $18-$20 each. To order, call 845-2021 and ask for Shelia.
The Relay events will include as always food, games, t-shirts and crafts.
In case of rain the event will be postponed till a later date.
