stethoscopeNASHVILLE – Area residents will soon have increased access to a cardiology specialist, Howard Memorial Hospital CEO Debra Wright announced Tuesday during the hospital’s monthly board meeting.

Wright said the Arkansas Heart Hospital plans to lease a specialty clinic at HMH for Dr. Andre Paixo, an interventional cardiologist, beginning in August. Paixo will meet with patients in Nashville on the first and third Monday of each month and plans to apply for consulting privileges at HMH, according to Wright.
“The heart hospital staff anticipates that he may need additional clinic days so, if necessary, he may utilize space in the new medical office building,” Wright wrote in a report to board members presented at the meeting. “Stacy Harberson, radiology director, and Tessa Jamison, ultrasound tech, are planning a site visit to the heart hospital’s peripheral arterial disease assessment tool to determine equipment and/or training needs, if any are required, for HMH to provide peripheral vascular screening exams.”
The CEO further reported that senior hospital officials have been exploring the possibility of offering stress tests at the hospital, a service offered at its former location but which was discontinued when the new building was constructed.
“Since Dr. [Joe] King performed these in the past, he has indicated he would be willing to do them,” Wright said in the report.
