DUMAS – For the first four innings, the Nashville Scrapperettes held a narrow 2-0 lead over the host Dumas Lady Bobcats Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Class 4A South regional tournament.
From there, the Scrapperettes outscored Dumas 11-2 in innings five through seven to seal a 13-2 victory and earn a berth in the state Class 4A tournament which begins this week at Mena.
The Scrapperettes entered the regional as the three seed from District 7-4A, while Dumas was the two seed from 8-4A.
The state tournament will be this weekend in Mena.
The state semifinals will be played Saturday, weather permitting, with the championship game set for 3 p.m. Friday, May 22, at Bogle Park on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
The Scrapperettes put up 16 hits on Dumas in last week’s regional opener. Dumas managed 3 hits.
Alyssa Harrison, Hannah White, Maddi Horton and Kendall Kirchhoff posted 3 hits each. Mattie Jamison added 2, with 1 each from Brookelyen Cox and Bailey Dougan.
Cox was the leading scorer for the Scrapperettes with 3 runs. Maddi Miller, Harrison and Dougan had 2 runs each, with 1 a piece from KeeKee Richardson, Jamison, Horton and Kirchhoff.
Twelve Scrapperette scores came off RBIs, including 5 from White, 3 from Dougan, and 1 each from Jamison, Harrison, Cox and Kirchhoff.
Avery Kesterson pitched 7 innings for the Scrapperettes, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 10 Lady Bobcats.
Scrapperette scoring included 2 runs in the second inning, 3 in the fifth, 2 in the sixth and 6 in the seventh inning.
