Susan Virginia Schaal Hartness, age 79 of Mineral Springs, Ark., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026, in Texarkana. She was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of the late Oma and Russell Widmer.
Mrs. Hartness was a member of Central Baptist Church in Mineral Springs. During her career she was a school teacher, teaching at Mineral Springs, Nashville, Siloam Springs, and De Queen Public Schools. But more importantly she was a dedicated and loving mother, wife, sister, and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Schaal, and her brother Albert Widmer.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Hartness; two sons Henry Schaal, George Schaal and wife Christine; one daughter Mary Schaal; one sister Catherine Price; two grandsons Wilson and Lincoln; as well as her stepchildren Mark, Jane, and Loria and their children Emma, Anna, Tyler, Regan, and Aurora.
Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 22, at Central Baptist Church in Mineral Springs,
Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, at Central Baptist Church in Mineral Springs with Bro. Ben Jones officiating; burial followed in Mineral Springs Cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.
