Soon after officially filing for the office of Howard County coroner Monday morning, local EMS paramedic Alan Laxton announced his intention to seek the office. The following is Laxton’s announcement:

“My name is Alan Laxton, and after much consideration and prayers, I am excited to announce that I have filed to run as your Howard County Coroner.

“I have worked with the Howard County Coroner’s office as deputy for a few years under the former Howard County Coroner, John Gray. During that time, I acquired my Toxicology Certification, Medicolegal Death Investigator Certification, Sudden Unexplained Infant Death Investigator Certification, and Forensics Toxicology Certification. Later, I relocated out of the county and was sworn in as Deputy Coroner for Lafayette County, Ark. During my time I have investigated several different types of scenes and causes of deaths. I have obtained my Associates of Applied Science in Paramedic degree through UAHT.

“During my education I was pleasantly awarded two national scholarships and graduated with honors and active in the honors society. While attending UAHT in Hope I was elected as the first ever Student Government President for two consecutive years. I currently work in EMS with Pafford as a paramedic for seven years. I love to take care of those in need and their families. Knowing that patients and families both need me in their time of need is what keeps me striving to take care of our communities. In addition, I have worked as first responder and assistant fire chief within the county.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to run as your coroner. I kindly ask for your support and votes for Howard County Coroner to continue supporting those in need when it matters most.”
