
Mary Carolyn Ellis, age 95 of Nashville, Ark., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025, in Texarkana, Texas. She was born on Feb. 17, 2025, in the Highland Community to the late Hiram Wilson and Bess Watkins Wilson.
Mrs. Ellis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nashville from the age of 8. She served in many different areas of the congregation. She graduated Nashville High School and went on to attend Henderson State University to obtain both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education. She taught in Nashville Public schools for 30 years. On June 7, 1953, she married Sam Ellis and the two spent 43 years together until his passing in 1996.
Carolyn was active around her community in organizations such as PEO, Howard County Christian Health Center and the retired teacher’s organization. She also volunteered at Howard Memorial Hospital as a Pink Lady.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Ellis; her son, Richard Ell; and three brothers, Ralph, Wayne and Phil Wilson.
Those left to cherish her memory include: her daughter and son-in-law, Laura Montgomery and Greg; two grandchildren, Mack (Ashley) Montgomery and Molly (Travis) Kennedy; five great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Jeremy Montgomery, Waylon, Garrett and Kylie Kenndey; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Ellis; as well as a host of nieces, a nephew, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church in Nashville.
A funeral service will be held to honor Mrs. Ellis’ life following the time of visitation at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 11, 202, at the First United Methodist Church in Nashville. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
