After 34 minutes in executive session at a called meeting, Tuesday night, the Mineral Springs School Board voted to relieve MS Elementary principal Ruby Dean of the ‘interim superintendent’ title she had for one day, and unanimously named MS High School principal JonDavid Amerson to the position for one year.
Amerson will be paid $100,000 for the year. The board also approved a $10,000 stipend for an as-yet unnamed person to be financial mentor to Amerson.
This all happened after the surprise suspension of Supt. Billy Lee at the end of Monday night’s regular July meeting. The suspension vote was reportedly unanimous.
Following the 38-minute special meeting, the board took a 29-minute break; then went into another called meeting; this time to approve the minutes of the previous meeting which included signatory changes for school accounts and CDs. The second called meeting lasted one minute.
Present for the first called meeting were board president William Dixon, and board members Xavier Vaughn, Dorothy Vaughn, Mike Erwin, Ricky Gamble, Barnado Thomas and Ray Hawkins. Gamble and Hawkins left before the second meeting.
Both school principals were also present, along with a number of other school employees.
