MINERAL SPRINGS – A new member has joined the Mineral Springs police force, and he is out to win the hearts and minds of residents.
John Blagg, 44, was hired by the department June 15 and says that he has been taking time during his patrols since coming to the city to introduce himself to residents, especially children.
“If they know me, they’re comfortable with me, they’ll come to me when they need help,” the father of three said was his reasoning for making such an effort to get to know residents.
The De Queen resident said that his application to the Mineral Springs department was motivated in large part by Chief Jeff Witherspoon’s promise that Blagg could take all training classes that become available.
“The more I can learn about how to do my job, the better I can serve the people,” he said, adding that this had been a theme in his police career, having started by taking every class offered at the police academy at Camden.
Blagg graduated from De Queen High School in 1990, and commutes back and forth to Mineral Springs. When asked what he does in his spare time and if he has any hobbies, he replied, “Just my family. If I’m not here, I’m there with my wife and kids. They’re my life.”
