James Dwight Kitchens, age 88, a resident of Dierks, Ark., died Friday, Feb. 24, 2017 in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born Dec. 12, 1928 in Liberty Hill, Ark. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of Liberty Hill Church of Christ, more recently Arkansas Boulevard Church of Christ in Texarkana, and served on the Dierks School Board from 1970 to 1990. He was also a rancher and active in the timber and poultry industries.

Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Bert and Alma Pearl Greene Kitchens; his wife and mother of his children, Lenora Pinkerton Kitchens; his second wife, Virginia Bounds Kitchens; one brother, Dorman Kitchens; and a sister, Lorene Krantz.

He is survived by: three daughters, Debra Laster of Texarkana, Ark., Donna Blubaugh of Texarkana, Ark., and Deanna Davis of Stamps, Ark.; one son, Dayton Kitchens of Augusta, Ark.; three sisters, Faye Dixon of Dierks, Ark., June Kesterson of Mena, Ark. and Jane Hubbard of Russellville, Ark.; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Kitchens were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Scott Kitchens and Travis Lane officiating. Burial followed in Harmony Cemetery.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26 at the funeral home in Dierks.
