THERE WERE NO EMERGENCIES IN THE CLIFF THIS WEEK. We did get some tornado watches and big thunderstorms with heavy rain. The electricity did remain on and I was glad for that. You can’t imagine how dark it gets until you have lived in the country.
The Mineral Springs High School graduation exercise will be on Friday, the 13th , at 7:30 p.m., at the Mineral Springs football field. The valedictorian will be Olivia Coulter and the salutatorian will be Camry Stewart. Congratulations to all the graduates. You are beginning a new area of your life where the decisions you make can be crucial to your success. Don’t follow the crowd but do what is good for you and follow your spiritual home training.
I hope every Mother was honored by their family and friends on Mother’s Day. My family was not home, but I heard from everyone with a phone call or a nice big card or gift. I spent the day with my Christian family in church. It was a blessed day.
We want to send our sincere condolences to the Savage family who had a death in their family. Our prayers are with you, Prayers are requested for the Brewer family, Lela James who was able to be in church on Sunday, the Greenlee family and Milton Hendrix, who is beginning to feel better. Ruben Pauley is not feeling well, so add him to your list. Thank you for sharing in the well being of our neighbors and friends, call me if you have a prayer need.
BLACKS IN HISTORY:
OPRAH WINFREY,(1 -29-1954) born in Kosciusko, Mississippi, attended the Nicolet High School and East Nashville Magnet School, and graduated from Tennessee State University. Winfrey is the CEO of HARPO PRODUCTIONS, she is the supervising producer of the Oprah Winfrey show and the head of the Harpo productions (N014 on the BE Industrial/Services companies lists with $340 million in revenues), runs a multimillion dollar company that spans the media spectrum of television,print, radio, and film production. Winfrey launched the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) in 2011.
WILLIAM Rurghardt DuBois, was born February 23, 1986. Dubois was a scholar and activist. He became the first African American to earn a PH.D. from Harvard University. He wrote extensively and was the best known spokesperson for the African-American rights during the first of the 20th century. He co-founded the National Association for the Advancement of Color People in 1909. Dubois died in Ghana in 1963.
